What springs to mind when viewing the above image?
A picture of two twins who were maybe born in the mid 20th century. They are identical in every way including facial features and dress.
LOOKING AND SEEING ARE DIFFERANT. LOOKING IS A GLANCE BUT SEEING IS STUDY.
Context.
Context is the set of social, economic, political, environmental and social factors that influence an image, film or book.
Knowing the context of any image helps us to explain the image better. As if it is part of a narrative and every subject in the image has their part to play.

1 Descriptive images-example medical, CCTV or passport photos.
2 Explanatory images- descriptive but use a science-based approach. such as a horse running in slow motion. All movement is documented.
3 Interpretive images- images that offer a more personal view of the world. Metaphorical for example.
4 Ethically Evaluative Photographs. Migrant Mother for example by Dorothy Lang. A more, social or political judgement is made.
5 Aesthetically Evaluative Photographs- Banal subjects presented in an interesting way.
6 Theoretical Photographs- images that subject matter is photography. Showing correct or wrong ways of doing things in the process of creating photos.
